Pig and Pip is a handmade children’s clothing brand and sewing school based in Chepstow. The business is run solely by self-taught seamstress and experienced teacher Hayley Miles.
I set up Pig and Pip back in 2016 whilst on maternity leave from my job as a primary school teacher. I continued to sew once I returned to the classroom then decided to work on the business full time from 2020 Since then I have been working hard to build the reputation of the business as one that supplies quality and unique items with my range of exclusive Welsh themed fabrics being my best sellers! In 2021 I opened my own shop in Chepstow High Street as a platform for my own business as well as to provide opportunities for other local crafters to sell their handmade items (over 100 in total!)Due to the increasing demand for sewing lessons and my handmade children’s clothing which is stocked in shops all over Wales, I closed the shop in March 2024 to dedicate my time to my new sewing studio.
So much time and effort has gone in to getting the business to where it is today and the impact it has had on the wider community has been incredible! Hundreds of young people have attended my workshops both in English and Welsh, many choosing to buy their own machines and independently make items to sell in local craft fairs. I am humbled by their increasing enthusiasm and interest for my lessons and the joy they get after making something themselves.
The momentum for Pig and Pip clothing and sewing lessons is building day by day and I’m proud to be able to share my business with you as the winner of the Modern Maker Kids category this year.
