Hello, I’m Helen and I design and make retro style children’s clothing and accessories using fun and funky fabrics!
Yoyo children’s wear is an award winning retro inspired children’s clothing and accessories
brand all handmade and run by me, Helen from my little studio in East Yorkshire. I cater mainly for ages 3 months to 6 years.
I’ve always had a passion for sewing, don’t know where it comes from, it’s just there! After leaving college where I sharpened up on my sewing techniques and also learnt how to draft patterns, I wanted to put my new skills to use.
I always had in my mind that I wanted to do something completely different to what else was available so, in 2010, after many months of research, yoyo children’s wear was born.
I love drafting all my own patterns, I think it gives so much freedom, all the designs are my own. I take inspiration for everything around me, I evolve ideas in my head then quickly get them down on paper.
I try and source fabrics that are different from the norm and because of this, I’m able to keep my brand unique. I use simple silhouettes and colourful, fun and funky fabrics. Sustainability is very important to me, I make clothes that wash at low temperatures, clothes that wear well and that are designed to last and that are able to be passed down or onto friends. I try to use GOTS fabrics and Oeko-Tex Standard 100 as much as possible, around 80% at present but my aim is to be a bit nearer 100% in the future.
