Now, as a Small Biz, there is not always a pot of money sitting around to be able to give everyone free items from your business. This is where social media and giveaways come in. If you are giving away an item and in return benefiting, it’s a win-win situation!
Benefits of Giveaways
You are probably wondering what benefits you might receive from running a giveaway:
- Increased social media following
- Traffic directed to your Etsy/website
- Wide promotion of your business and items
- Engagement with new and present customers
All of these could inevitably lead to sales. And sales makes everyone happy, right?!
How to go about it
As part of running a giveaway you firstly need to decide on the social media platform you’d like it on and then decide how you want people to enter. Take Twitter for example. You could ask people to RT the specific tweet and follow you. Or you could ask them to RT the tweet, follow you AND leave a comment too.
It’s all a bit of a domino effect really. You gain a new follower, they start retweeting your tweets, this pops up on their follower’s twitter feed, you gain another new follower etc etc etc. Or, the winner receives their amazing prize and being so impressed subsequently buys all their Christmas presents from your Small Biz. Those people they give the gifts too are so impressed they then buy all Birthday presents from your Small Biz. Your business will be booming!
Don’t forget to always include an end date and time and to announce the winner too! Perhaps you could ask them to post a picture of their prize (once they receive it) on their social media accounts.
You can also promote the giveaway over on your Website, Facebook page and Instagram page too, to help increase the number of entrants.
What to Giveaway?
- A bundle of items
- Items specifically from a new range
- Give the reader the choice of selecting their prize to a fixed value (eg. 5 greetings cards of their choice or £10 worth of items)
- A personalised item
- A gift card from your Small Biz
Hosting a Twitter Giveaway with ME!
I have previously hosted Twitter giveaways with other Small Businesses including Picture A Name, Nudge Cards, Yorath Designs, KA Graphic Design, The Lazy Lemon and Angela Chick.
All you need to do is let me know what you want the winner to receive and I will do all the rest for you and host it on my Twitter account! I have over 4.5k Twitter Followers so the giveaway will already be reaching a wider audience, but I’d also ensure they follow your Twitter account too to get those extra followers. Where space allows, I will always try and include the link to your Etsy/website.
Below is a Twitter Giveaway I hosted with Holly from The Lazy Lemon. It had 344 retweets and helped Holly gain over 270 followers!
Some of the wonderful comments I received following these giveaways have been:-
“You’ve doubled my Twitter and Instagram following and that’s what I was looking for, a chance to increase the number of people seeing my work :)”
“I got loads of new followers. I really enjoyed working with you!”
“The giveaway proved to be a huge success. Thanks so much!”
“The giveaway was a big success and you’ve really helped me to promote my business so much”
