The Story Behind Picture A Name
‘Picture A Name’ was an idea that came about when a friend asked me to create a custom illustration as a newborn baby gift. All I had to go on was the baby’s name and as I was ‘googling’ for ideas I realised that the entire design could be the name itself, just like the inventive ‘google doodles’! Most of the existing name art you see around is simply the name written in a nice font with the illustration wrapped around it. I saw an opportunity to create something unique that was a complete storybook picture generated by the letters. At first glance you see a charming illustration, but once you look closer the name reveals itself.
Tour Round the Store
Picture A Name is such a unique business. Owner Ben has really created something that gives a special personalised item. I just love the idea! There are already popular name art’s available in the Etsy Shop or you can have your own customised artwork. Take a guess at the one’s below!
They look perfect in a good quality frame. And it doesn’t stop there with name art, there are also birthday cards sticking with the inventive illustration theme! The age number has been creatively designed around an illustration.
What stands out with this business is the creativity and passion Ben has for this. The end product is really fantastic and creates a lasting memory be it for a newborn or a birthday, whatever the occasion! To think these are all hand drawn is rather amazing! Check out Ben’s ‘About’ section on Etsy to see 3 steps to how his art gets from sketchbook to the final piece – pretty incredible I’d say!
My Picks
Ben kindly sent me some samples from his very arty and colourful Etsy Shop and I can assure you they are just as amazing in real life as in the Etsy Shop! Not just that but they are all produced on very high quality paper/card so you won’t be disappointed.
One of my favourite cards is the age ‘4’ one with a flamingo design. Flamingo’s are so trendy these days and I love how Ben has been so imaginative with incorporating the age and animal. Also, they are a bargain at only £2.50 so what are you waiting for?!
The Little Touches
- The cardboard backed envelope my items came in had been stamped on the back with Picture A Name’s logo which I thought was really cool!
- Inside there was not only an awesome double sided business card (one side saying thank you) but there was also a slightly bigger info card which gave an example of what you can expect from an illustration – what a great touch that is.
- Ben is SO accommodating for any custom designs so if you can’t see a name there that you’d like just contact him and he’ll be more than happy to create something for you.
Coming Soon
There’s already a fab birthday card range to choose your ideal card from but Ben will also be expanding this range further with new designs so keep your eyes peeled!

I LOVE THESE! We ordered a book for Flora when she was smaller and it was a about a little girl who lost her name – we could personalise it and she still adores getting to the last page to find her name. I know she’d be so excited to get something like this so I’m definitely entering the competition – fingers crossed but I’ve noted the discount code if we’re not lucky! Thanks so much, Rebecca, fab review of a lovely business xx

These are really clever designs! I love how each letter is an animal, it’s so imaginative. I’d love to see which animals are used to make up Bexa! The birthday flamingo is really good! I’m going to have a look around the Etsy shop to check out all the other creative designs 😍. Fab review as always Rebecca! 💖 xx

Agreed Mel! Awh, I think these are perfect gifts, something different to usual as well and so thoughtful xx
Sophie
These designs are so thoughtful! I’d love to know how long it takes to think of an animal per letter of a name. I love that birthday card too. Sadly I don’t have any four year olds in my life though. Such a great small business as always! x

PictureAName
Hi Sophie, Bit late in replying to this so hope you get to read it! It’s a bit random, sometimes I can picture it in my head pretty quickly and sometimes I’ll get 3/4 of the way through a name and get stuck on one or 2 letters and have to come back to it the next day!! I’ve also been asked to do sports, vehicles, space themes so not always animals 🙂
Rebecca
I know, I’d be sitting there for absolutely ages, I’m not that imaginative either so Ben really has got something unique! Thanks for reading xx

These are amazing! I love buying personalised gifts/cards, there’s just something so special about something that’s been personally made. Supporting small businesses is so important too so I’ll need to go and check out the Etsy store and figure out which birthdays are coming up.
Lovely post,
Zara xx
Rebecca
Completely agree with you Zara! Small businesses are quite often not known about so it’s so great to discover more. Thank you for reading xx
Kristin
This is so cute! I recently learned that there will soon be a new baby in the extended family and once I find out the name/gender this is def going on my list of gift ideas!
Rebecca
Awh congrats Kristin that’s great to hear. I think Ben’s prints are so perfect as a gift – really unique and different too! xx
