This month we meet: Jacqueline Rooney Art
Hello, I am an award-winning, Irish artist based in the picturesque, coastal village of Rostrevor in Co. Down, N Ireland. I create vibrant, atmospheric, emotive Artwork to enhance interiors and evoke smiles.
Tell us a little bit about yourself…
What inspires you?
The stunning landscapes and coast around me, inspire so much of my work. I use my “artistic licence” to enhance the beauty of what I see by infusing my paintings with vibrant and uplifting colours to make the viewers smile.
Tell us a bout your materials and processes
I mainly work with acrylic paints in my work as they are so versatile. Before embarking on a painting I love to visit the location and do preliminary sketches and small paintings en plein air to really absorb myself in the setting. I gain inspiration from the weather, the sounds, the smells and beautiful surroundings. I then take a series of photographs before returning to my studio to begin the painting.
What makes you different?
I am renowned for the vibrant colours in my work. My customers tell me they brighten their homes and make them smile every day. In a world that can be a little grey at times I strive to add happiness and colour through my Artwork.
What are your business ethics?
I strive to use recyclable packaging in my work where possible. My customers appreciate the attention to detail in my branding and presentation and I am always conscious of using the most environmentally friendly options.
Anything else you would like to tell us?
Dreams do come true…
I strive to inspire others to believe it’s never too late to follow their dreams. My dream dramatically grew following and exciting call from the BBC Presenter of “The Repair Shop” & renowned furniture designer, Jay Blades.
In the midst of the pandemic in March 2020, Jay called me and said he loved my vibrant Artwork and said it gave him shivers on the back of his neck. He suggested working together as we share a mutual love for colour and design. Jay commissioned me to create a very special seascape piece which showed light and hope and he then transferred my image unto luxury velvet before creating unique pieces of furniture with the design.
Following this exciting collaboration, I launched my own collection of luxury velvet homewares and furniture and went on to open my new gallery in Rostrevor. Carefully curated pieces from local makers and beyond fill this stunning property and customers are treated to a feast for the eyes and senses as soon as they enter our doors.
