We’ve visited Gozo twice now, and I have to say it is a bit of a hidden gem. You’re probably wondering where Gozo is? It’s a tiny island north of Malta in the gorgeous Mediterranean Sea and makes up the Maltese archipelago (along with 20 other islands believe it or not!)
We flew to Malta and then took a short ferry trip across to Gozo (the only way you can get across, apart from swimming of course!) With the gorgeous blue sea, blue sky, sun shining, it’s an absolutely perfect place to visit, especially in the Summer.
There is so much to do and see it makes it a great place for everyone’s idea of a ‘perfect holiday’. Whether that be exploring, chilling in the sun, doing something adventurous, or just trying local cuisine. Plus, the island is so small that it’s easy to travel around and pack lots in during your stay. You could even stay in Malta and visit Gozo for the day AND still be able to fit lots in. Win win.
Beach
We visited so many different beaches (obviously, the island has plenty!) and one of my favourites was Xlendi Bay. It was like a hidden spot and was just beautiful with stunning cliffs and caves. We hired kayaks (for a very small price) and kayaked out of the bay. The water was crystal clear you could see right to the bottom and it was ideal for snorkelling too. There were lots of caves we could also kayak into and get out and explore, it was so fun!
Outdoor Activity
Aside from the amazing kayaking we got to do, I think Sam would say Scuba Diving. I didn’t Scuba Dive but he did on different wrecks and says it was amazing! Gozo is very popular with Scuba Divers, so if that is you, make sure you add Gozo to your dive list!
Restaurant
When we visited Xlendi Bay we decided to have lunch at a restaurant called Il-Terrazzo and it was a dream. We had the most incredible views (you can see for yourself below), sun and glistening blue waters and a delicious lunch. We couldn’t have asked for anything more.
Landmark
A visit to the Citadel is an absolutel must. It dates back to the roman times and not only has fantastic history, but you can get some amazing 360 ° panoramic views of the Island, which is great for the photo album! I’m not a historian so if you want some more info about it, visit here!
Villa
When we’ve been we’ve stayed in the most amazing villa’s, booked through Airbnb. They have been absolutely incredible. Stunning garden, views, swimming pool and I love the vibe of their buildings out there. The owners are also so accommodating (especially with nearly 14 of us staying in the one last year!) and we got a super cute arrival food package when we got there. The sunsets are also stunning so we were lucky to be able to see them from the garden too.
If you would like to stay in Gozo then you can get the cheapest holidays from Holiday Gems and spend some extra money you save on the delicious food and wine out there.
Have you ever been to Gozo before? What were your favourites?

I love Gozo! My parents used to have a villa in Malta so I spent all my childhood holidays there but we always took the boat across to Gozo at least once every summer holiday. It’s so pretty, and you’re right, the snorkelling is amazing. Thank you for a lovely trip down memory lane! x
